EFAP - Member Service Coverage Explained
Handout for Members - Selecting Additional Treatment Options
Throughout your course of treatment, additional supports may be suggested by either your family doctor or psychologist. When considering such options – whether residential or outpatient - it is important to remember that not all will qualify for repayment by Sun Life, and not all will be recognized by WSIB.
Prior to committing to any program – and to avoid risk of financial liability – please note the following:
a) Pre-approvals through Sun Life
Sun Life should be consulted for pre-approval when considering any form of treatment (this includes residential care). Information can be obtained via their website at www.sunlife.ca, or by calling them directly at 1-800-361-6212 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
a) WSIB Claims
WSIB claims are complicated, and must be handled with care. Any suggested treatments must be directed to either your WSIB Adjudicator (for newly approved cases) or your WSIB Case Manager (for those who have been off longer).
b) Support Programs for First Responders
Although rare, support programs designed specifically for first responders are sometimes recommended.
Given their unique program design, neither is covered by either Sun Life or WSIB. As such, funding must be secured prior to your commitment to attend. For assistance with this process, please contact Tracy Coulter, Coordinator, EFAP & Addictions, at EXT 4885.
